WDMI is a fully registered technical institution by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE). The Institute was declared an Executive Agency in October, 2008 by the Government of Tanzania under the new name Water Development and Management Institute (WDMI) and received full accreditation by NACTE in the same year. The current Diploma courses offered by the Institute lead to Ordinary Diploma Awards of Level 6 NACTE Qualifications.
The enrolment capacity of the institute of 900 students annually has never been reached and one of the major constraints to optimal capacity at the WDMI is be the limited financial support from both government and private sponsorship. The WDMI students do not have access to the Higher Education Students Loan Board (HESLB) since they do not qualify in the description of “Higher Education Students” and hence the only public /government funding support available to them is through sponsorship by the Ministry of Water, that is provided on a cost sharing basis.
